_.Do you require wear resistant steel?
This is the answer: 11% to 14% Mn High Manganese Steel - Hadfield Steel
Hadfield Steel is used wherever is required resistance to severe impact or high abrasion. All wear resistant parts in
industries such as mining, railroad, foundries, quarries, steel mills, shot blasting and shot peening are made of this High Manganese Steel.
The characteristics of Hadfield Steel:
- It is work hardening steel - the more impact and abrasion it gets the harder the surface becomes
- Steel stays ductile underneath - only surface layer hardens
- With continued impact steel can harden to 63 Rockwell C scale or 668 Brinell
- When rolled - never brittle
- Low friction properties
- Non-magnetic
- Corresponds to ASTM A128
- Tensile strength: 120,000/130,000 psi
- Yield strength: 60,000/85,000 psi
Chemical composition:
Mn 11.0/14.0; C 1.0/1.3; Si 0.60 max; P 0.05; S 0.04 max
